Demo of a new song, written shortly after arriving in DC for the summer.
*Edit* I've re-recorded the demo. For the original I took a separate guitar and vocal track so that I could balance the volumes better (and I only have one mic), but I decided the tracks sounded too disconnected and sacrificed volume control for a more organic demo.
lyrics
A thousand words of glory
And a single word of shame
It's not hard to pick a flower
But a lion's first to tame
A dozen cups of sugar
And a teaspoon of grace
These strings can paint a heart's love
But I still can't see your face
Are we close to heaven now?
Can you hear it in the sound
Of
A thousand steps on concrete
That lead you home
Or the whirring of a motor
That fills an ice cream cone
The echo of your voice
Across the lake
Or the dripping of wine
That made you brave
Are we waiting for that sound?
Are the stars weighing you down?
Well I'll trade
A thousand words of glory
To know your name
And a field of sun-drenched flowers
For a heart that I can't tame
