A song I was exposed to at Pinewoods Camp that's been stuck in me. I never heard a definitive version of the song before trying my own, but I at least got a sense of the melody and lyrics from various sources, and hey, folk process. Google leads me to believe the song was originally by Walt Aldridge.
lyrics
Love is a precious thing I'm told
Burns just like West Virginia coal
But when that fire dies down it's cold
There ain't no ash will burn
I have seen snow fall down in May
And I have seen rain on cloudless days
Some things in life are bound to change
But there ain't no ash will burn
You say this life is not your lot
And I can't be something that I'm not
We can't stoke a fire that we ain't got
And there ain't no ash will burn
Love is a precious thing I'm told
Burns just like West Virginia coal
But when the fire dies down it's cold
There ain't no ash will burn
There comes a time in every life
When there are no more tears to cry
We all leave some things behind
There ain't no ash will burn
Love is a precious thing I'm told
Burns just like West Virginia coal
But when the fire dies down it's cold
There ain't no ash will burn
